As the nights grow colder

and the plants frailer

I have gathered my harvest

to save all the leaves I could

and give a second life to plants

in the last days of autumn’s fair

Mint, rosemary, basil, sage and thyme

to flavour my dishes and yours

and keep a little bit of summer’s radiance

in the deepest of winter’s cold

‘t is not a winter like any other

that is coming up this year

as days will be an endless feast

and Christmas celebrated every eve

as chestnuts roast

and spiced teas boil

while we write more and more layers of our world
