Capturing sunlight

Capturing sunlight

To the forest I walked

and in the meadow where trees grew scarcer

the first dandelion flowers thrived

I picked up as many as my small bundled contained

and back home I mixed the yellow flowers with a deep red apple

an apple gorged with sunlight that sat all winter long in a cave

the fresh vivacity of dandelion flowers reawakened her

adding some sugar and a pinch of salt

I stewed them all, and let them cool

before capturing sunlight in a jar
