Moonless valley

For long I walked in a valley so deep

the moon did not shine there

Nights were mainly dark as I could barely make out the stars across the thick canopy of trees

and I had to journey trusting my inner sense of orientation rather than the divine white light which used to lay a silvery carpet along my way

Now, finally I am climbing a ridge that will bring me closer to the moon I have ever been

and perhaps tomorrow I’ll rest in its shine again, after such a long absence

and its light will almost blind me as I’ve gotten used to see in the darkest nights
