Torpor

Haze

The torpor that has fallen over me is almost solid

a haze so thick it blinds me

emptying the theaters of my mind and my heart

from their usual animation

I’ve hit another hardened layer to blow

and I’m trying to take hits at it

but its defenses are fierce

drowning me in clouds of dust and smoke

making me lose all sense of orientation

I feel sleepiness behind my eyes even when I’ve had a good night sleep

my imagination and my hands are still

nervously waiting for time to pass

anxiously looking at the clock that circles

around my emptiness

Only writing and painting can save me of that

but even my two favorite arts are powerless before

such a dense and gray fog

“Haze” is a watercolor painting by Chantal Peguiron that will be exposed between February 16th and March 3rd in Swiss Art Place, in Lausanne
