Meditation

desespoire sadness depression hope

There are moments

where you surrender

to the currents of life

letting them carry and toss you around

Moments when you’ll discover a lot

about who you are not

There are other moments instead

when you grow in wisdom, in knowledge of yourself

and the haze surrounding your inner eyes starts clearing

you know exactly where you want to go

and you understand that the river course is not the one you want to follow

In these moments

gather all your strength

grab a root, a bough

and climb on the river’s bank

out of its whimsical reach

Don’t listen to the mermaids of life

that sing to you of blissful pleasures and fame

No don’t listen to them

for they just want to keep a hold on you

they try you, to see if you’re strong enough to pursue your Dream

or if you deserve to be tossed around for another year or so

to further grow in wisdom

Once you get out of the water of fears and doubts and control

don’t expect things to become magically straight and easy

no, you’ll have to fight your way through valleys and mountains and monstrous creatures

and when you lose a fight, you shouldn’t be so grim and downcast

that you let yourself slip again in life’s river

from now, get used to the idea you’ll lose more fights than you’ll win

what matters is pursuing your way with the same determination

what matters is learning from each defeat the lesson hiding beyond

Now it’s time to start building

this shield, this dagger

that will let you cut

through hard rock

unharmed

Each fight, each day

will add a little bit of

iron and moonstone

to your deadly weapon

Keep walking

but don’t glide like an automaton

through gray corridors

Walk like an enlightened being

conscious of each of his steps, each of his gestures

Admire the change of landscape around

as you grow in wisdom

notice how you get closer and closer from the mountains peak

you only dreamt about few years ago

And remember that your best ally in this fight

is not anger and shouting and boastfulness

but an alloy of quietness and firmness and canalized fierceness

When you feel you are getting lost in a meandering valley

that leads back to the river you’ve left behind you

stop a moment

and breathe

breathe

take the time

to lie down

and let your thoughts settle

ponder

meditate

rise again only when

your ideas will be clear and shining

like plants born anew under a bright morning sun
