Afternoon nap

tissagedetristesse

Sometimes your mind blanks out

After you have drowned

in an afternoon nap

In your half conscious sleep

you barely remember

who you are

whether it’s the past

or the present

And when you wake up

it takes a long time

to reemerge in this world

It’s as though while you slept

your spirit traveled to a place of haze

another wooly world

and it takes a while to call it back

I personally used to hate these afternoon naps

Time on Earth is streaming forward

while you’re not moving of an inch in your sleep

And when you wake up you need to run to make it up

but you don’t even know in which direction to go

“Tissage de Tristesse” is a watercolor painting by Chantal Peguiron
